Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) is a composite material consisting of Portland cement, fine aggregates, water and alkali-resistant glass fibers which, when mixed in certain proportions and manufactured under controlled conditions, achieves physical properties that allow it to be used for numerous cladding applications, especially to those where weight is a significant factor in design. The fibers serve a similar purpose to the reinforcing steel in reinforced concrete, which is placed primarily in tensile stress areas. The glass fibers add flexural, tensile and impact strengths, thus the resulting material allows the production of strong and lightweight architectural cladding panels. |
